THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy said that neither he nor Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala had received any specific demands from the veteran leader, K. Karunakaran, on accommodating the latter’s supporters. At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Chandy said the party had adopted certain norms to accommodate all those who had returned to the party. Many leaders returned along with Mr. Karunakaran, while some others returned earlier. “We have decided to given an honourable welcome to all those returning. The homecoming will not be seen as a weakness,” he said. As per this formula, those who returned would get back the posts they held previously, with presidentships being exempted. Since there were lot of claimants, the party was particular that those who cannot be accommodated in their earlier positions, should be given an equivalent position. “It is for the party high command to take an appropriate decision if there is any further demand beyond this formula,” he said. To another question, Mr. Chandy said neither the party nor the United Democratic Front (UDF) had started discussion on sharing of Lok Sabha seats. “We always begin discussions with an open mind, but now we have not thought about it,” he said in reply to a question on the Kerala Congress (M)’s demand for the Kottayam seat.
