Shimla/Lucknow: Shimla has recorded 345 mm rainfall from June 1 to June 18, which is the highest during the period in the past 40 years, Met office Director Manmohan Singh said. The previous record was 286.5 mm. The Capital on Wednesday received 95.3 mm rainfall, Guler 110 mm and Kasol 100.4 mm. In Uttar Pradesh, two persons were killed in Mainpuri district in a wall collapse incident. Neemsar in the State had 90 mm rainfall and Capital Lucknow received 42 mm rain. According to the Central Water Board, waters of the Ganga, Ramganga, Gomti and Rapti are rising. Meanwhile, State Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta has issued an alert in the flood-prone districts and asked officials concerned to take preventive measures ahead of flood-like situation in the days to come. As light to moderate rainfall continued to lash some parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh , the maximum temperature in the region hovered between four and seven degrees below normal. Both Ranjit Sagar Dam and Shahpur Kandi in Punjab received 88 mm of rainfall. The advanced monsoon showers in the region have eased the power situation in the twin agrarian states of Punjab and Haryana, officials said. –– PTI
