Thousands join ‘Aani’ car festival in Nellai

Pious movement: Devotees pulling the car of Sri Nellayappar Ganthimathi Ambal in Tirunelveli on Wednesday.
TIRUNELVELI: Thousands of devotees from various parts of the State witnessed the 504th ‘Aani’ car festival of Sri Nellaiyappar – Gandhimathi Ambal Temple on Wednesday.
After special pujas were performed from early morning, the car festival started around 9.15 a.m. Speaker R. Avudaiyappan, Collector (In-Charge) G. Srinivasan, Tirunelveli MLA N. Maalairaja, Mayor of Tirunelveli Corporation, A.L. Subramanian, Deputy Mayor K. Muthuramalingam and other VIPs commenced the car festival.
The district administration had declared a local holiday to enable the devotees to participate in the celebrations. The car reached the position at 4.50 p.m.
