Held for harassment of woman

Special Correspondent

TAMBARAM: Six men were arrested in Pammal and Tambaram in the past couple of days for allegedly harassing young women.

On Tuesday morning, a 14-year-old girl, living in Vandalur, reached the Tambaram bus stand on her way to a government aided school where she is studying in Standard IX. Soon after she got down from the bus, a couple of men are reported to have made nasty remarks on her.

Embarrassed, the girl complained to her relatives who came to her help. They then went to the Tambaram police station to lodge a complaint. Then Padmanabhan and Suresh, both daily wage earners, were arrested.

And in Pammal on Sunday, four youths were reported to have passed comments on a 19-year-old girl. She complained to her elder brother who pulled up the youths who, in turn, assaulted him and his sister. Following a complaint by her relatives on Monday, the Shankar Nagar police arrested the four.
