NEW DELHI: Medical services at Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan Hospital here remained affected for the third day on Wednesday with resident doctors and interns continuing their strike demanding additional security for the staff, better infrastructure and more group C and D staff. Refusing to call off the strike, LNJP Resident Doctors’ Association president Kuldeep Kumar said: “Talks with the hospital authorities have failed again today and we have no option but to continue with the strike.” “The doctors on strike have been demanding additional security for the hospital staff and improved medical infrastructure and facilities for patients. The hospital also urgently needs additional hospital staff,” said Dr. Kumar. Patients sufferThough senior doctors at the hospital continued to ensure that the services remained functional, patients coming to the Casualty and Emergency did face some hardship. Resident doctors and interns also set up a parallel Out Patients Department and attended to 160 patients during the day. Urging the doctors on strike to come back to work, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Swaraj Batra, said: “While efforts are on to ensure that patient care does not suffer, we cannot function to full capacity without our resident doctors.”
