DMK, PMK should forgive and forget: Thirumavalavan

Staff Reporter

MADURAI: The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi on Wednesday appealed to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Pattali Makkal Katchi to sink their differences and work together, keeping in mind the larger cause of Tamils and Tamil Nadu.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, party president Thol. Thirumavalavan said Tamil Nadu’s political scenario was witnessing a situation where religious fundamentalist forces on the one side, and filmstar-politicians on the other, were lusting for power. This being the case, the Democratic Progressive Alliance should remain united and strong. He wanted both the parties to adopt a policy of forgive and forget.

Gesture hailed

Mr. Thirumavalavan appreciated the magnanimity of Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, who had said that the decision taken by the DMK’s High Level Policy Implementation Committee applied to the State and that they would not insist that the PMK must be expelled from the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre.

He would be meeting the Chief Minister in two days to impress on him the need to reconsider the decision. He felt that the issue was being blown out of proportion. There was no question of the VCK taking sides. The VCK will organise a Dalit Christian Resurgence Conference at Villupuram on June 27, where an appeal will be made to the government to form a Christian Charitable Endowment Fund Board on the lines of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Board and the Wakf Board, said Mr. Thirumavalavan.
