Verdict reserved on row over child custody
Legal Correspondent
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved verdict on a dispute between a divorced couple over who should have custody of their 11-year-old boy.
On Tuesday, a vacation Bench consisting of Justices Arijit Pasayat and G. S. Singhvi suggested to Gaurav Nagpal and Sumedha Nagpal that they sort out their differences for the sake of the child.
The judges heard the couple in the chambers and, as no settlement could be reached, posted the matter for regular hearing on Wednesday.
After hearing elaborate arguments by senior counsel Shanthi Bhushan, who appeared for Gaurav, and Sumedha, who herself argued her case, the Bench said it would give its verdict later.
Gaurav filed the SLP after the Delhi High Court confirmed the trial court order, which granted custody of the boy to his mother.
