Keen attention: The Hindu Education Plus career counselling workshop at Khammam on Thursday.

Hyderabad: The Hindu Education Plus career counselling workshop organised at Kadapa, Khammam, Kurnool and Nizamabad had a fair turn out of students and parents on Thursday.

During the four-hour long interaction through video conference, many doubts were cleared about option of courses and colleges for pursuing the undergraduate courses. General queries on the various courses being offered by the colleges affiliated to the JNTU and other universities poured in torrent.

Some wanted to find out whether they stand chance to get admission with the ranks got by them in professional colleges of repute. Many others students who had qualified in the Eamcet examination took part in the workshop in hope of getting due exposure and guidance on the process for admission into engineering and medical courses.

Students throng

In Khammam students from far off places such as Bhadrachalam, Palvancha and Madaram reached the town a day in advance to attend the workshop at the Training and Technology Development Centre (TTDC) auditorium. The Bomma Institute of Technology and science, Khammam was the regional sponsor.

The participants got glued to the screen on which participants posing questions from four districts- Khammam, Kadapa, Kurnool and Nizamabad as well as the resource persons answering from The Hindu, Hyderabad office appeared together in split screen format. It was made possible by using effective multi-site video conferencing system.

In Kadapa too, the meeting hall at in the sprawling Umesh Chandra kalyana mantapam was packed and several participants were busy jotting down suggestions put forth by the experts and noted down the websites which they were advised to browse to secure additional information.

Sizeable number

Nizamabad saw a sizeable number of girls from across the district attending the workshop. The conference hall was packed and most of the participants had to stand during the interactive programme.

In Kurnool, enthusiastic parents were equally active in shooting questions to elicit information from the experts that would guide their wards in the right direction at a critical juncture.

The young boys and girls occupying the spacious air-conditioned Sunayana Auditorium on the Collectorate campus gradually wore a confident smile on their faces after the experts dispelled the myths saying that even a student with a moderate rank could do wonders on the Engineering course by improving communication skills.

Gratitude expressed

Soundara Rajan, an irrigation employee, who travelled from Banaganapalli along with his daughter has expressed his indebtedness to the organisers for arranging an interface with the top experts in the state. “It is like a mantra for me as the experts related future jobs to the growth of different sectors of economy,” he said.

Another parent Anjaneyulu, who accompanied his daughter Ananthamma said being the first generation family in education they were in total confusion about the future move. “Now we can face the counselling boldly as we have decided our priorities,” he said.

A student dared to ask whether he could make another attempt to get into a good institution by sacrificing one year.

The expert panel supported his idea describing it as worth waiting.
