All set for Linux users’ meet

KOCHI: The local chapter of Indian Linux Users’ Group or ILUG are all charged up for this month’s meeting, to be held at Broadway on Sunday. Too many things have been happening for free software during the month that they can’t wait till they meet and discuss it.

The new and most exciting development in Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) scene, no doubt, is the launch of Mozilla Firefox 3, a FOSS Application for Internet browsing that provides better speed, security and flexibility.

Starting from this month’s meeting, ILUG-Cochin is planning to focus on FOSS applications.

The main agenda for the meeting will be localisation and free software, with discussions expected on importance on localisation of Free Software, Malayalam localisation projects, Swathantra Malayalam computing, contributing to localisation projects and digital content generation in Malayalam.

Members of the group will also deliberate on how to contribute to the State-sponsored localisation project Nammude Bhasha Nammude Computerinu (Our language for our computer).

The accent of discussions will be on exploring possibilities of contributing to different levels of localisation, as it is the key factor in bringing the Free Software Movement closer to the common man.
