Puducherry
A NEW ONE: The walkway getting ready at the park on 45 Feet Road in Puducherry. PUDUCHERRY: Residents living on either side of 45 Feet Road have finally found their way in setting up a recreation park in their locality. So as to fulfil the long-cherished demand of the residents, particularly those living in Venkata Nagar and Rainbow Nagar, the Forest Department has started the work to establish a children’s park cum walkway in the area. The 2.5 acre-ground, earlier used for holding various events, will have a walkway for joggers, a skating ground and an exclusive multipurpose play system for children. “It will be one of the largest parks for children in Puducherry. The park will have several play equipment for children. We expect the park to be ready within five months,” Conservator of Forest P. Devaraj told The Hindu. The main feature of the park was the introduction of multi purpose play systems such as a banister slide, boll slide, spiral slide, vertical net climber, loop rung, decks provided with canopy and a bridge connecting all the equipment, he said. The park would also feature the regular outdoor swing sets, playground slides and climbers, he added. Besides the provision for play equipment, the park would have huts made of trees, animal structures, environment-friendly rain shelters on all four corners and a beautiful lawn with benches, Mr. Devaraj said. The Pondicherry Agro Services and Industries Corporation (PASIC) had been allotted the work for establishing the park, he said. A sum of Rs. 36 lakh had been given to the agency for the expenditure involved in the first phase, he said, adding that they had started the work towards putting the walkway.
