NEW DELHI: The Confederation of All-India Traders has in a memorandum sent to Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy and Minister of State Ajay Maken objected to the rates proposed by the Delhi Development Authority for conversion of industrial plots into commercial ones. “Exorbitant”Describing the proposed charges as “exorbitant”, the Confederation has demanded that keeping in mind the “ground realities” of trade in Delhi the charges be reduced and rationalised. Confederation secretary-general Praveen Khandelwal said the Delhi Development Authority had proposed a conversion rate of Rs.66,528 per square metre for Central Zone, South Zone and Dwarka Zone; Rs.43,252 for North Zone, East Zone, West Zone and Rohini Zone; and Rs.11,299 for Narela Zone. These rates, he said, were based on current commercial rates prevailing in the market and were, therefore, on the higher side. Such high rates, he said, would force the traders to close down their commercial establishments. Mr. Khandelwal claimed that even the DDA Technical Committee had admitted that the conversion rates were on the higher side. Financial burdenHe urged Mr. Reddy and Mr. Maken to intervene and modify the basis of fixing conversion charges so that the proposed conversion charges are brought down to an extent that they do not put a heavy financial burden on the traders.
