‘Booth level officers are not possessing relevant information’ ‘Large number of duplicate voters in the electoral rolls in many constituencies’ NEW DELHI: A delegation of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee led by its president J. P. Agarwal has met the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi, Satbir Silas Bedi, to apprise her of problems being faced by voters in getting their election identity cards made. The delegation informed Ms. Bedi that the process of getting the election ID cards was not progressing to the satisfaction of the voters. Mr. Agarwal, who was accompanied by DPCC general secretaries Suresh Malik, Rajender Malik, Mahmood Zia, Chattar Singh and Sanjay Puri, said the number of booth level officers who have been entrusted with the job of getting the voter identity cards was not sufficient. Also, he complained that these officers were not possessing relevant information about the process of making voters’ identity cards. ConfusionStating that this was leading to a lot of confusion and uncertainty, Mr. Agarwal urged Ms. Bedi to extend the last date of getting the ID cards made as a large number of voters had not been able to get them due to the heavy rush at the centres where they are being prepared. Mr. Agarwal said another serious problem pertained to the large number of duplicate voters in the electoral rolls in many constituencies. He urged the CEO to get these duplicate votes deleted. The DPCC delegation also stated that in some districts the new polling station lists prepared by the local Sub-Divisional Magistrate gave no indication of the area of the polling stations which had been shifted to faraway places causing inconvenience to voters. The delegation demanded that polling stations be provided in proximity to the voters.
