High Court notice to ex-IPS officer
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has sought an explanation from a 90-year-old retired IPS officer for allegedly not providing medical assistance to his divorced wife despite its direction.
A vacation Bench of Justice S N Aggarwal issued notice to nonagenarian Jai Kishan Balani and directed him to file his response by June 23.
The Court had, earlier in March, directed Mr. Balani to provide medical assistance to his divorced wife Vimla, who is suffering from breast cancer.
Seventy-year-old Vimla approached the court after Mr. Balani allegedly failed to comply with its order.
“He did not take any steps to see that she gets medical facility through his CGHS cover and also did not inform the court about how and why, the same was not done,” Vimla’s counsel R K Saini said in a fresh petition.
Mr. Saini also sought implementation of the court’s previous direction.
He further contended that she cannot afford to bear the cost of treatment.- PTI
