20,000 students receive bus passes

CHENNAI: School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu distributed free bus passes to government school students here on Thursday.

Nearly 20,000 students of 60 schools received the passes. Over the next 10 days, the passes would be distributed to the other students. Last year, 2, 61,000 students of government schools, government-run professional and arts colleges and polytechnics received free bus passes, says a release from the Metropolitan Transport Corporation.

This year, Transport Minister K.N. Nehru introduced small, laminated passes to facilitate easy maintenance.

Transport Secretary Debendranath Sarangi was present at the function held at Rani Meyyammai Girls Higher Secondary School.
