Minister distributes free colour TVs

NAGAPATTINAM: State Government is according priority for implementing various development schemes in the State, said Minister for Dairy Development U. Mathivanan on Wednesday.
Job scheme
The Minister, who distributed free colour television sets to 499 beneficiaries of Melavazhakkarai village in Tirukkuvalai taluk in Nagapttinam district, said that the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme introduced in the district was a boon to the jobless agricultural workers who are now getting a daily wage of about Rs.80.
Welfare schemes
Mr. Mathivanan pointed out that several welfare schemes including marriage grant to the poor, social security for farmers and assistance for poor pregnant women benefited thousands of beneficiaries in the State.
K. Arunmani, project officer, District Rural Development Agency, Nagapattinam, who presided over the meeting, explained the rural development projects being implemented in the district.
