Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR: In order to provide good education at the intermediate level to rural students from interior naxalite-affected villages and social welfare hostels, the government is sponsoring their education and enrolling them in corporate colleges.

Accordingly, the first phase of counselling for hostel students and for students from naxalite-affected villages falling under the Remote and Interior Areas Development (RIAD) scheme, was held in Karimnagar town on Wednesday.

The students from RIAD villages who secured more than 400 marks in the SSC examinations and hostel students who secured more than 450 marks were eligible for free education in corporate colleges. The government set a target of sponsoring 400 students from Karimnagar district. In the first phase, only 124 students had attended counselling against the target of 200 students.

Collector Sandeep Kumar Sultania said that officials have conducted counselling and career guidance for the students for the selection of various groups in college and for the filling up of necessary forms.

He said the students of Karimnagar district would study in the Narayana educational institutions.
