Training programme gives officials new perspectives

SIVAGANGA: Fifty-one-year old S.A. Yuvarani, District Social Welfare Officer of Sivaganga district, feels that her superiors can expect “a different Yuvarani” in terms of overall efficiency in her remaining period of the Government service thanks to the three-day residential training programme on personality development.

During the period, she couldn’t find time to have good sleep. Yet, she was in good cheer at the end of the 72-hour training programme.

“We have realised the value of life and understood our responsibilities towards family and office. It seems my mind and body has rejuvenated,” Ms. Yuvarani said.

S. Natarajan, 55, Information and Public Relations Officer, says the programme brought a positive attitude in his mind.

They are among the top 100 officers of various departments of Sivaganga district who participated in the programme. If not all, a majority of them, many were above 50, has the same view about it.

Various aspects

The trainers led by Dr. M. Parivallal of The Training People of Bangalore taught them different aspects on physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual matters that defined body and its efficiency. The officers, who were caught in stereotypical work, did find new ways of experiential living techniques.

It was not just lecturing or joking. It was all about inducing the mind and body to keep afresh to look for innovative thinking, experiencing something new like dancing and singing.

“It is about making individuals realise their latent potential or fine tuning and moulding them. I feel individuals are core to any achievement,” says Mr. Parivallal, a renowned human resource consultant.

“We have everything in our system to shape ourselves. Many people have done remarkable achievements but without realising it. If they start taking pride in their past achievements, I have no doubt that they will do wonders,” he added.

“The aim is to transform the overall work culture of officers and their subordinates, who have immense responsibilities to the people, particularly to poor people and their dependents. Change of mindset is the need of the hour. Concerted efforts to motivate officers will certainly bring results,” says Collector Pankaj Kumar Bansal, Collector, who played a major role in organising the programme.
