ONGC retains title

NEW DELHI: Radhey Shyam Gupta hit an entertaining century as ONGC defeated Air India to retain the title in the 35th Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial cricket tournament at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground, here on Thursday.

Gupta 101 (115b) and Gautam Gambhir 55 (46b) helped ONGC gather a formidable 250 for six in 40 overs.

Arun Pandey picked up two wickets for 31 runs.

Rain intervention forced the umpires to revise the target for Air India, which was set 169 in 27 overs.

Robin Bisht 49 (59b) and Deepak Joon 44 (33b) led the Air India chase, but their team could manage only 164 for five. Virender Sehwag captured two for 48.

Gupta was declared the Man of the Match, while Joon was adjudged the Man of the Tournament.

The scores: ONGC 250 for six in 40 overs (Radhey Shyam Gupta 101, Gautam Gambhir 55, Mithun Minhas 45) bt Air India 164 for five in 27 overs (Robin Bisht 49, Deepak Joon 44). — Sports Reporter
