Spanish film fete to commence today

BHUBANESWAR: The Film Society of Bhubaneswar (FSB) has announced to host an exclusive Spanish film festival in the city commencing on Friday. Christened as “Cinema from Spain: Flamenco Sketches and Spanish Tales” the three-day event would be mounted at the Jayadev Bhavan.

The festival will feature three films by Carlos Saura, one of the celebrated filmmaker of the world, informed FSB officials. Saura’s famous Flamenco Trilogy - Blood Wedding, Carmen, and El Amor Brujo – shows how he has blended his passion for music with exploration of national identity, they explained and added that the other three films being featured in the festival are contemporary works, which have got critical acclaim in international film circuits. Saura’s “Blood Wedding” made way back in 1891 would be the inaugural film on Friday at 6 p.m. It would be followed by screening of “Pan’s Labyrinth”, the two-hour film made in 2006 by Guillermo del Toro. Saturday’s screening would start at 6 p.m. with another Saura classic – “Carmen” - that he made in 1983 followed by “Mondays in the Sun” directed by Fernando León de Aranoa and made in 2002.

The festival would conclude on Sunday. Saura’s “Love, the Magician” made in 1986 will be screened on the day followed by Achero Mañas directed “El Bola” made in 2000. The hosts have made arrangements for acceptance of on-the-spot membership of the Society, the secretary informed.
