Trains cancelled, diverted

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: For the third consecutive day East Coast Railways (ECoR) continued to cancel, short-terminate and divert trains in view of floods in Orissa’s Balasore and its adjoining areas in West Bengal.

The flood between Narayangarh and Bakhrabad in West Midnapur District of West Bengal had damaged Railway Bridge No. 168 and the girder was washed out, an ECoR statement said here on Thursday. Besides, there were breaches at some locations in Kharagpur-Bhadrak Section.

ECoR announced that no train would run via Kharagpur-Bhadrak line from Howrah for next two days.

To make matter worse stranded off passengers resorted to violence at some stations despite the fact that the railway division diverted trains to lighten the pressure.

The trains which are in the cancellation list are 2821/2822 Howrah-Bhubaneswar-Howrah Dhauli Express, 2837/2838 Howrah-Puri-Howrah Express, 2073/2074 Howrah-Bhubaneswar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express and 8409/8410 Howrah-Puri-Howrah Express Sri Jagannath Express.

Besides, 2841 Howrah-Chennai Coromandal Express, 8645 Howrah-Hyderabad East Coast Express, 2703 Howrah-Chennai Falaknuma Express, 2663 Howrah-Tiruchirapalli Express, 2847 Howrah-Vaskodagama Amravati Express and 8005 Howrah-Koraput Samaleswari Express leaving Howrah had been cancelled.

The ECoR diverted 2839 Howrah Chennai Mail through Kharagpur-Tata-Jharsuguda-Sambalpur-Titlagarh-Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam route. Similarly, 2863 Howrah-Yeshvantpur Express would run via Kharagpur-Tata-Jharsuguda-Bilaspur-Gondia-Chanda Fort-Kajipet instead of its scheduled path.

Chief Public Relation officer of ECoR J. P. Mishra said full refund would be granted to the passengers for trains cancelled .
