Man held on rape charge

He lured her with a job and called her to his hotel room


The victim is a 27-year-old widow

She had come in touch with the man during a train journey


BERHAMPUR: Personnel of the Berhampur women’s police station on Thursday arrested an employee of a private insurance company from a city hotel on charge of raping a woman with lure of a job.

The arrested person, Sanjay Kumar Garg was the investigative officer of a private insurance company who had checked into the hotel on Wednesday.

As per the FIR filed by the victim, he had called her to his room on Wednesday night to discuss about the job he had proposed to her. But she had preferred to meet him on Thursday morning.

According to her Garga raped her when she met him in his room at around 7.30 am.

Following a complaint by her the personnel of the women’s police station raided the hotel room and nabbed Garg, before he could escape.

Evidence

According to the in charge of the women’s police station, Sabitanjali Nayak, they have found some evidences of rape from the room and both the victim and assailant were sent for medical examination at the MKCG Medical College Hospital.

The victim is a 27-year-old widow of Kanisi area of Ganjam district. She had come in touch with Garg during a train journey to Cuttack in the past.

Garg had promised to get her appointed in his company and was in regular touch with her after that. On Wednesday he had reached the city and asked the woman to meet him at night in his hotel room.

But the woman had not agreed to it. But the lure of employment was too great. She reached the hotel room of Garg early in the morning on Thursday to become victim of his lewd intentions.

But Garg denied the allegations and claimed he was innocent.

According to him he had come to the city to investigate and settle two over Rs.10 lakh worth insurance claims and it was a ploy to pressurise him in relation to those insurance claims.
