Leopard dies in city zoo

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 13-year-old male leopard died at the city zoo here on Thursday after it choked on a chunk of meat.

Zoo director Elcy George said here that the animal collapsed and died soon after eating a couple of pieces of meat on Thursday afternoon. A post mortem revealed a chunk of meat stuck in the animal’s windpipe.

The leopard, Vishal, was among the three brought to the city zoo from Mysore in 2005. The dead leopard’s skin was removed under supervision by officials, Ms. George said. There are now two male leopards and a lone female, at the zoo.
