Health hazard: A corporation official displays the stale food items seized from hotels in the Medical College area in the city on Thursday. — Thiruvananthapuram: A special squad of the city corporation raided hotels and restaurants in the medical college area on Thursday and seized stale food kept for sale. The stale food items seized by the squad included cooked rice, vegetable curry, oil, ‘rasa vada’ and chappathis. Health Inspector T. Alexander who led the raid said the oil had acquired the consistency and colour of tar after being reused several times. In one of the hotels, the ‘rasa vada’ was found kept in a green bucket supplied by the corporation to store waste. The outlets from where stale food was seized included Hotel Green Park on the Medical College-Chalakuzhy road, Hotel Chinchu, Matha Fast Food, Hotel Moon City, India Coffee House in the Ulloor area and Hotel Thiruvonam near the police station. Mr. Alexander said none of the hotels had stocked meat items unfit for consumption. “It shows that frequent raids by the corporation are paying off,” he said. Corporation Secretary Johnson K. George said notice had been issued to the hotels.
