10,000 OBC applications at DU

NEW DELHI: As many as 10,400 applications received by Delhi University this year are from candidates belonging to the Other Backward Classes, including 6,300 from male students.

The University has reserved nearly 5,000 seats for the OBCs from this academic year beginning in July to accommodate the quota. About 5,800 applications received under the OBC category are from Delhi alone.

In all, as many as 135,016 admission forms were sold and 92,758 submitted during the registration process for admission to various colleges that ended on Monday.

General category

About 82,000 admission forms have come from the general category, of which more than 43,000 have been received from female candidates.

“Of the total number of admission forms received under the general category, 58,000 are from Delhi and about 22,000 from other States like Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar,” said Joint Dean of Students’ Welfare Suman Kumar Verma. About 12,000 applications have been received by the University for around 7,400 seats available for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
