Share autorickshaws and lorries detained for rule violations

Special Correspondent

TAMBARAM: Personnel of the Regional Transport Office, Meenambakkam (at Alandur) and Motor Vehicle Inspector at Tambaram have been initiating action against “share autorickshaws” and lorries violating the rules, in the past couple of weeks.

Personnel from the offices conducted surprise checks on share autorickshaws in Meenambakkam and Tambaram.

G. Sampath Kumar, Motor Vehicle Inspector, Tambaram, said violations by share autorickshaws included overloading, modifying the seats to accommodate more than the permitted number of passengers, operating in places outside those sanctioned in the permits and failure to produce valid documents. The charge against lorries was that they did not have proper tail-lamps , the absence of which exposed other vehicles to risks.
