Government wants to file counter to Swamy’s plea
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The government on Thursday submitted before the Madras High Court that it wanted to file a counter to the petition filed by Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy, seeking to implead himself in the petition by S. Nalini, a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, who has sought premature release. When the matter came up before Justice S. Nagamuthu, Advocate-General G. Masilamani said Dr. Swamy had made an allegation against the State government.
It would file its counter. The two issues to be considered were whether Dr. Swamy was entitled to implead himself in the petition and whether the reasons for impleading were justified.
G. Rajagopalan, counsel for Dr. Swamy, said if the State government opposed the impleading petition, Dr. Swamy’s stand would get justified.
Nalini’s counsel S. Doraisamy said the petitioner did not have any locus standi to implead himself in the case.
Mr. Justice Nagamuthu posted the matter for July 2.
