Single agency may monitor billboard display

PUDUCHERRY: The district administration is mulling the possibility of entrusting the task of monitoring the display of billboards in Puducherry region to a single agency.

Sources said that at present, the municipality, the PWD and Revenue Department were handling the issue. While the municipality and the PWD were entrusted with the task of collecting advertisement tax and user charges respectively, the Sub Divisional Magistrate was given the responsibility of supervision, sources said. Revenue Department officials said that handling the issue by three different agencies had come in the way of strict enforcement of rules with respect to the display of billboards.
