AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat High Court has stayed for two weeks the arrest of Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor Parimal Trivedi under the Atrocities Act. During this period, the police should not take any action against him, the court said. Justice Harsha Devani, however, rejected Mr. Trivedi’s plea to quash the complaint against him, saying the court could not interfere with the law taking its course. The complaint was filed by a Dalit professor, who alleged that Mr. Trivedi used derogatory language against him recently. He also said the police failed to record the Vice-Chancellor’s statement even after 45 days of his complaint.
