15-year-old girl charred to death

RASIPURAM: A 15-year-old girl was charred to death in a fire accident in her house in Vennanthur near here on Thursday.
Police said Bhuvaneshwari was cooking in her house, when her dress caught fire. Neighbours rescued her and admitted her to the Salem Mohan Kumaramangalam Government Medical College Hospital. But she succumbed to burns.
Police have registered a case in this connection and are investigating.
Six arrested
The Narcotics Intelligence Bureau personnel arrested six persons for peddling ganja in Salem on Thursday.
Police said a team of personnel, while patrolling in New Integrated Bus Stand and found Chinnapaiyan (47), Annamalai (5), Krishnamoorthi (40), Rajendran (48), Jagannathan and Neela selling ganja.
The team arrested them and seized nine kg of ganja. Cases were registered against them.
PDS rice seized
A team of supply officials seized one tonne of rice meant for supply under the public distribution system at Kolathur near Salem on Thursday.
Acting on a tip off, the officials raided Kaverypuram village and found 10 bags of PDS rice hoarded near an overhead water tank and 14 bags in a field.
They seized the rice. Further investigation was going on, official said.
