Officials told to complete the survey in a month Survey to be taken up by government and private agencies
Shobha Karandlaje BANGALORE: Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Shobha Karandlaje, who is in-charge of Mysore district, on Friday ordered a survey of 154 tanks in Mysore district to know if they had been encroached upon. She has set a month’s deadline for the completion of the survey. The Minister held a high-level meeting of officials and representatives of political parties from Mysore district here to discuss the steps to be initiated for putting Mysore on a fast pace of development. Briefing presspersons after the meeting, Ms. Karandlaje said that the proposed survey would be taken up by the Government and private agencies so that it would be possible to complete it within the stipulated time. The boundaries of the tanks would be marked after the survey and they would be fenced. Of the 150 tanks in the district, 120 would be taken up for rejuvenation at a cost of Rs. 90 crore. A discussion in this regard would be held with the Water Resources Minister and officials concerned, she said. The meeting decided to provide Kabini water to 13 villages of Nanjangud taluk, including Doddakavalande, at a cost of Rs. 18 crore. Tenders for the purpose would be invited in a week. It was also decided to go ahead with the rehabilitation of 73 tribal families living in the Nagarahole reserved forest area. They would be shifted to Sollepura in Heggadadevanakote taluk of Mysore district. A sum of Rs. 3.5 crore would be spent on their rehabilitation. Officials had been directed to provide power connection to the village in a week. The meeting directed the officials to pay electricity bills of drinking water supply schemes of 53 villages in Mysore district, she said. Ms. Karandlaje said that it had been decided to provide administrative clearance in a week to construct an Ambedkar bhavan in Mysore at a cost of Rs. 12 crore. The Deputy Commissioner had been asked to identify a site to construct Jagajeevan Ram bhavan. On the stand of the Government on the opposition from environmentalists and farmers to the proposed thermal power plant at Chamalapura near Mysore, she said that the issue would come up for discussion at a meeting on Saturday. Vijay Sankeshwar, MP; P. Manivannan, Mysore Deputy Commissioner; and Jyothi Ramalingam, Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department, participated in the meeting.
