Sticks gutted

SATTUR: A lorry-load of sticks meant for making matchsticks were destroyed in a fire at Elayirampannai near here on Friday.

According to the Sattur Station Fire Officer, S. Marimuthu, the sticks were being brought from Kerala.

When the lorry turned a corner into a street, the roof of the vehicle came into contact with an overhead electric cable sparking the fire.

Though the fire service personnel tried to put out the flames, they could not stop the damage caused to the vehicle.
