Collector seeks clarification on supply of gas by GSPCL

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: Taking a serious note of the recent spat between Mayor K. Saroja and Kakinada MLA Mutha Gopalakrishna over the latter’s allegation that the Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) deliberately set aside the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited’s (GSPCL) proposal to supply natural gas to the city, Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi instructed Municipal Commissioner A. Sivakoti Prasad to seek a clarification from the GSPCL whether it was in a position to fulfil its commitment. Mr. Prasad was also asked to know the progress achieved by the Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) in laying the Kakinada -Ahmedabad pipeline through which the KMC could procure gas. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Dwivedi said that the GSPCL had submitted its proposal to the KMC in writing but could not commence production and supply gas within two years as the project work was still in progress. On the other hand, the RIL was capable of supplying piped gas from its terminal at Gadimoga. Mr. Prasad was therefore asked to ascertain facts so that KMC could exercise its choice.
