Breaking the barricade: The police blocking a Congress march in front of the office of the District Superintendent of Police in Malappuram on Friday MALAPPURAM: The Congress has warned that it will not remain silent spectators if the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government continues its ‘lopsided’ education policies. The Congress will react strongly if the government does not change its policies, senior Congress leader Aryadan Mohammed, MLA, has said. Inaugurating a march taken out by the party to the office of the District Superintendent Police here on Friday, Mr. Aryadan said that Education Minister M.A. Baby was following “wrong and antiquated policies of people like E.M.S. Namboodiripad and Joseph Mundasseri” in the field of education. These policies had failed, he said. Against lathichargeThe march, in which hundreds of Congress workers took part, was taken out in protest against Thursday’s police action on Kerala Students Union activists during their Collectorate march. Eight KSU workers had been injured in the police lathicharge. Mr. Aryadan demanded stringent action against the police officers responsible for the attack on KSU activists. The march began from the District Congress Committee office and reached the SP office premises. The police blocked the march yards from the SP office. District Congress president U. Aboobacker presided over the march, which concluded peacefully. Bandh enforcedKSU activists enforced educational bandh in many institutions across the district. They barged into the campuses of Amal College and Peevees School at Nilambur and obstructed classes. The KSU incursions into the Amal and Peevees campuses have added significance as both institutions belong to Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) Rajya Sabha Member P.V. Abdul Wahab. The Congress-IUML standoff in Malappuram district is yet to be solved.
