BANGALORE: Minister for Information Technology and Biotechnology Katta Subramanya Naidu announced here on Friday that the State’s information technology policy is being revised in consultation with industry leaders. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Fourth India Innovation Summit organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mr Naidu said, “We will take initiatives to advance the next wave of success on several frontiers like engineering and life sciences, besides information technology, key sectors where innovation means opportunity.” Technology education will be upgraded in consultation with industry, he said. The State Government wants to promote the hardware and semiconductor sectors, with both commercial and public economic gains in mind. “We will create a climate that encourages and rewards investment, diversification, modernisation and invention. The new IT policy will be a catalyst for new businesses and careers to give our young people a good future firmly grounded right here at home,” Mr. Naidu said. To ensure this, KEONICS will develop several Tier 2 and 3 cities as alternative IT investment regions. Shekhar Mitra, Global R&D Vice-President, Procter and Gamble, said in his keynote address, “Understanding the minds of consumers and what they want but is not yet in the market leads to innovation. There can be open innovation with collaboration between industry, research labs and government agencies.” Infosys Technologies Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director K. Gopalakrishnan welcomed the delegates.
