HOSUR: The Bharatiya Janata Party has urged the Centre to immediately withdraw the increase in fuel prices.

A resolution adopted at the two-day meeting of the party’s State executive committee, which began here on Friday, stated that the increase would affect the common man and further push up the prices of grain and other essential items. The government, it said, should cut taxes and levies on petrol, diesel and LPG.

Housing loan

The meeting expressed concern at the increase in housing loan interest rates. When the BJP was in power, home loans carried interest of 6.75 to 7.25 per cent. In the last four years of the United Progressive Alliance government, it had gone up to 11 per cent.

It held the Congress-led government at the Centre responsible for the fertilizer shortage. Because of the wrong economic policies they pursued, the Congress and its allies suffered defeats in elections in 12 out of 15 States.

Through another resolution, the meeting criticized Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP Kanimozhi’s speech at a recent party conference, portraying the BJP as a communal party.
