This Day That Age
The validity of the Schedules attached to the Indo-Rumanian Trade Agreement 1954 has been extended up to September 30, 1958, it was officially announced in New Delhi on June 19. Letters were exchanged to this effect in New Delhi on June 19 between Mr. K.B. Lall, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Mr. D. Niculescu, Trade Representative and Commercial Counsellor of the Rumanian Peoples’ Republic in India. A Press Note issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the validity of the Schedules had been extended pending negotiations for the modification of the agreement. The Press Note added: “There has been a sizable increase in trade between the two countries since the conclusion of the trade agreement. Exports during 1957 were valued at Rs.54.6 lakhs as against Rs.8 lakhs in 1956 and Rs.2 lakhs in 1955. Imports during 1957 amounted to Rs.52.3 lakhs as against Rs.24 lakhs in 1956 and Rs.35 lakhs in 1955.”
