Dangerous

Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray’s call for the creation of Hindu suicide squads is disturbing. For a nation that is already reeling under multiple problems such as inflation and terrorist attacks, irresponsible comments like these will do no good. Creation of Hindu suicide squads to counter “Islamic terrorism” is not a solution to the problem.

It will become another problem by itself resulting in large-scale destruction of lives and properties. Mr. Thackeray is treading a dangerous path.

The Hindu suicide squad statement, though not unexpected from Mr. Thackeray, is highly condemnable. The whole world is opposing terrorism and religious fanaticism. Responsible Muslim leaders and countries have openly condemned terrorism in any form. Youngsters and law-abiding citizens should ignore such atrocious and irresponsible statements. The law should take its own course to bring to book those indulging in such hate campaign, however powerful they are.

R. Srinivasan,

Chennai

No sane Indian can think of making the kind of remarks Mr. Thackeray made about Hindu suicide squads. They should be treated with the contempt they deserve. Unfortunately, Mr. Thackeray still has a following in Maharashtra and no one opposes him for fear of retaliation. Unless the government takes the bull by its horns, Mr. Thackeray will continue to make such vicious statements.

H.K. Seshadri,

Bangalore

Mr. Thackeray is at his old game of advocating an-eye-for-an-eye approach to revive the sagging image of his party.

He would do well to remember that violence breeds violence, and more violence still more violence, resulting in a vicious circle from which it is difficult to come out. A better alternative would be the enactment of a strict law against terrorism and a scrupulous enforcement thereof.

Manipal
