NEW DELHI: If an analysis of the common pre-admission forms received by Delhi University this year is anything to go by, B.Com.(Programme) is the most popular course among students, attracting the largest number of applications. At Ramjas College alone, 28,339 forms have been submitted for admission to B.Com.(P), while at Kirori Mal College and Dyal Singh College the number of applications received for the course is 27,859 and 26,320 respectively. As had been the apprehension this year, the cut-off percentages for English (Honours) in elite colleges will be “very high” and “easily above 90 per cent”. “The cut-offs for English will be beyond expectations. Till last year, we were not able to analyse the data as there was an entrance examination for the course but now the figures speak for themselves,” said a Delhi University official on Friday. At Lady Shri Ram College for Women, 19 students who have scored in the 95-100 per cent bracket (as their best four subjects) have applied for English (Hons), while 654 applications have come from those with scores between 90 and 95 per cent. At Hindu College, 22 candidates in the 95-100 per cent category have applied for that course, while in the 90-95 per cent bracket 765 applications have been received. Overall, the college has received the highest number of applications for this course among all others -- 23,881. At Hans Raj, 21 students who have applied for English (Hons) have obtained between 95 and 100 per cent. In the category of 90-95 per cent, 710 applications have been received. In the category of 95-100 per cent, 18 applications have come for English (Hons) at Sri Venkateswara College. As many as 586 students who have got between 90-95 per cent have applied for the same course. The figures are quite high in the 90-95 per cent category at Gargi College as well as Miranda House. The Dean of Students’ Welfare released this data on Friday. For B.Com. (Hons) at Shri Ram College of Commerce, 139 admission seekers fall in the 95-100 per cent bracket while as many as 2,280 candidates have their best four marks in the range of 90-95 per cent. At Hans Raj and Hindu College, 130 admission forms have come for the same programme from those who have scored between 95 and 100 per cent. Applications received from the 90-95 per cent category for B.Com. (Hons) at Hans Raj and Hindu total 2,207 and 2,232 respectively. For Economics (Hons), 117 students have applied in the 95-100 per cent category at SRCC, while 2,078 forms are from those who have scored between 90 and 95 per cent. At Hindu College, 110 students who have applied come from the 95-100 per cent category, while 2,040 who have scored between 90 and 95 per cent are interested in pursuing Economics. “The data reflect that on an average, campus colleges have received more applications in B.Com.(P), B.Com.(Hons) and Economics (Hons) than other colleges,” said Deputy Dean of Students’ Welfare Gurpreet Singh Tuteja.
