Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Aimed at improving the quality of research and education in biotechnology in the State, a five-year post-graduate course in M.Sc Biotechnology (integrated) will be launched by the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) from this academic year.

Vice-Chancellor of the university K.R. Viswambharan announced this at a press conference here on Friday. Admission for the programme will be based on an entrance examination conducted by the university. Candidates with 60 per cent mark for Plus Two are eligible to apply.

Along with the subjects for specialisation, students will have opportunity for practical training, research and industrial training.

In addition to technical and technological training, emphasis will also be given to communication and management skills. Special sessions will be devoted for the purpose.

“Our aim is to bring out a world class bio-technologist through the course,” said Mr. Viswambharan.
