Runway curbs to continue

It will remain closed for flight operations for six hours till July 31

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The runway of the international airport here will remain closed for flight operations for six hours for another month to complete the integration of the new parking bays with the 3398-metre runway.

The runway of the airport is remaining closed for flight operations for six hours from 1.30 p.m. since April 1 to take up the work. The work was scheduled for completion by June 30.

“As the work of integrating the runway and the parking bays will not be completed by this month, we have decided to extend the closure of the runway till July 31. We have secured NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) to complete the work,” Airport Director N. Nagraj said.

The work for linking the four parking bays, being constructed at a cost of Rs.14.5 crore to the 3,398-metre runway, got disrupted due to labour problems. The work was affected after headload workers demanded ‘nookukooli’ and increase in the charges for unloading cement that arrived at the project site.

Airlines operating services from the airport will have to continue with the revised flight timings till July 31.

Flight schedules

Air India Express, low cost carrier of Air India, has announced that the flight IX 539 from Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai will depart at 10.30 a.m. on Sundays and Mondays. The flight IX 540 will arrive at 7.30 p.m. from Dubai.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the flight IX 535 from Thiruvananthapuram to Sharjah will depart at 10.30 a.m. The IX 536 flight from Sharjah will arrive at 7.30 p.m.

On Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, the flight IX 537 to Abu Dhabi will depart at 8.30 p.m.
