‘Doctors demanding income certificate to treat dog bite’
Staff Reporter
NAMAKKAL: The Namakkal unit of the Tamil Nadu Consumer Vigilance Council has urged the Union Government to withdraw the increase in the fuel price.
Members of the council adopted a resolution to this effect at a meeting held here recently. The increase in the price of petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas had severely affected the common man. People were suffering as the prices of essential commodities skyrocketed, they pointed out.
In another resolution, the council appealed to the State Government to direct the officials at its hospitals to provide treatment for dog bite without asking for income certificate from the patients. It alleged that the doctors were asking the patients to get a certificate from the revenue department stating that their family annual income was Rs. 9,000.
The council wanted the Highways department to close the trenches dug up on Namakkal - Tiruchy main road for laying pipelines as a part of the Under Ground Drainage project.
The trenches, which were not closed properly, were posing danger to the road users.
Members also urged the district administration to remove the unauthorised hoardings in Namakkal town. A few hoardings were erected blocking the streetlights.
The Government should come forward to sell notebooks at subsidised rate to the students.
The district administration should direct the education institutions to handover the government scholarships without causing any delay, they said.
The council also demanded the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board to initiate steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the people.
The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation should operate additional bus services in the morning and evening for the benefit of school and college students, members said. Council chairman S. Selvam presided.
