The veteran movie director has always given top priority to humour in his popular films
Amusing: Film director and actor K. Bhagyaraj regaling students of J.J. College of Arts and Science in Pudukottai on Friday. PUDUKOTTAI: Why do most of the heroines in your films wear specs? Asked a student, and pat came the reply: “You should not make fun of the bespectacled hero (K. Bhagyaraj) alone.” InteractionBhagyaraj was at his hilarious best during an interaction with the students of the Visual Communication Department of J. J. College of Arts and Science here on Friday. He has given top priority to the humour aspect in his films and that alone has done much to draw an appreciative audience that likes to view his movies with much enjoyment. No surprise then, a chat with him should be a fun- filled experience for the students. But his speech also offered some valuable tips to those, who wish to make it big in the tinsel town. Bhagyaraj, who made his directorial debut through the film ‘Suvarilladha Sithirangal,’ said that a director should be able to gauge the pulse of the audience. “Each and every shot is important in a movie and a director should have the capacity to judge whether the scene would reach the audience effectively,” he said. The master storyteller also revealed that most of his stories were inspirations from real life happenings and past experiences. “There is no need for any hard thinking, just observe keenly what’s happening around and you can very well make a story out of it,” he said, adding “my film ‘Indru Poi Nalai Vaa’ is still liked by the people because the storyline is very much closer to reality.” Bhagyaraj, who worked as an assistant to Bharathiraja, said that he got to learn a lot from the latter. Also a chance to work with legendary actor ‘Sivaji’ Ganesan in ‘Thavani Kanavugal,’ according to Bhagyaraj, was an experience worth cherishing for life. RolesQueried whether he enjoyed most as a director or an actor, the veteran answered: “I liked both the roles. I feel dedication is more important to succeed and I make it a point that I give my best in whatever I do.” Secretary of the college, N. Subramanian, and Principal J. Parasuraman were present on the occasion.
