Pension scheme for poor spinsters
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The Chief Minister on Friday announced a pension scheme for poor spinsters aged 50.
The decision was taken at the two-day Collectors conference, which concluded here on Friday.
The Collectors should quickly identify the land required for setting up effluent treatment plants in all district headquarters and in 22 other towns, where the underground drainage system is functioning. The meeting also decided to expedite providing house connections wherever the underground drainage was completed.
The Collectors should hold discussions with the authorities concerned and gather information on constructing check-dams in the waterbodies to improve the groundwater table. The Collectors should also take steps to acquire funds for this project.
Under the ‘Varummun Kaappom’ scheme, 6,773 free medical camps had so far been conducted for the benefit of the poor. Another 2,227 camps would be conducted before the end of this year. The Collectors should ensure that specialists attended the medical camps. To avoid delay in distribution of financial assistance to pregnant women, the meeting decided to distribute aid under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Maternity Assistance Scheme to those recommended by nurses.
The Collectors should identify villages to conduct cattle protection camps and ensure that medicines were available.
