Teacher arrested on cheating charge

Staff Reporter

C. Shivakumaraiah

Bangalore: The Central Crime Branch police on Thursday arrested C. Shivakumaraiah (58), teacher at Cottonpet Corporation High School, on charges of cheating government job aspirants.

The police said that the accused was making false promises to candidates appearing for the KPSC (Karnataka Public Service Commission) examination and collecting lakhs of rupees from them.

The police said that he mainly targeted unemployed youth from rural areas.

He would ask them to pay Rs. 2 lakh in two instalments — Rs. 1 lakh prior to KPSC examination and the remaining Rs. 1 lakh and after the examination. They said that he had reportedly taken money from five persons — Suresh, Madhusudhan, Santosh, Chetan and Rajanna — who are appearing for the KPSC examination for the posts of second division assistant scheduled to be held on June 22.

The incident came to light when Rudramuni filed a complaint against Shivakumaraiah with the Chandra Layout police.

In his complaint, Rudramuni claimed that the accused had demanded Rs. 5 lakh from Madhusudhan, a native of Chitradurga district and a government job aspirant.

The accused had promised Madhusudhan that he would get him a job of a physical trainer.

When Madhusudhan neither got the job nor the money back, Rudramuni felt something fishy.

The CCB police raided the lodge where Shivakumaraiah had booked a room and from where he was carrying out his operations. The police seized a laptop, a mobile phone, a car, Rs. 10,000 in cash and a few incriminating records.

The police are on the lookout for Kumar, Rathod, Parameshwarappa and others, who are said to be Shivakumaraiah’s accomplices.

They said the accused was earlier charged for distributing fake question papers of the pre-university course examination and collecting money from students.

A cheating case was registered against him by Vijayanagar police about four months ago in this connection. He was released on bail later.
