MADURAI: A section of students, who passed Plus Two examinations in the CBSE stream from Kendriya Vidyalaya, is not able to join undergraduate courses due to differences in nomenclature of subjects.

Students who studied Business Studies in KV (Narimedu) found their names missing in admission lists. However, some of their colleagues have got admission in Chennai and Tiruchi colleges and a few girl students in women’s colleges here.

“The names of subjects we studied do not match with the courses (B. Com. and B. B. A.). But, they are ready to admit us to self-financing courses asking us to pay donation/excess fee,” laments J. Lalith Kumar, who secured 336 marks. When he applied for B.Com (computer applications) in a few city colleges, he was told that subjects like Business Studies and Informatics Practices were not equivalent to commerce and computer science of State Board.

Lalith Kumar, along with another aggrieved classmate S. Vivek Kumar, who got 397 marks, is now running from pillar to post.

A city college Principal clarified that the KV should take an initiative to get these subjects included in the list of subjects eligible for admission. In the latest list issued by the Directorate of Collegiate Education, these subjects did not find a place, he said.

The students, who had approached the KV Principal for help, said, “By the time we got an eligibility certificate it was too late as colleges were ready with admission lists.”

P. Mohan, Madurai MP, told The Hindu that he would intervene in the issue and represent the students’ plight to colleges.
