TRS for steps to overcome power and seed shortage

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has demanded that the government take immediate measures to tackle shortage of power and seeds that has become a cause of concern for farmers in Telangana region.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, TRS legislator T. Harish Rao threatened to block the Hyderabad-Ramagundam highway if the government failed to initiate steps to provide power and seeds to farmers. He said farmers were not getting even three hours’ power supply in spite of claims of supplying for seven hours.

“There was no power cut and in fact, power was supplied for eight hours during the run up to the by-elections. But, the farm sector has been plunged into a crisis after the elections,” he said.

He demanded that the utilities impose cuts for industrial and domestic segments to ensure that farmers were provided with assured power supply.

Mr. Harish Rao also criticised the government for its move to sanction Rs. 30 crore to two corporate colleges in the name of training students from weaker sections for competitive examinations. While there were several colleges that were performing better in Telangana, the Government had chosen to provide funds to the corporate colleges owned by coastal Andhra people, he said.

This was reflective of the amount of power wielded by the corporate colleges that were making huge profits and dictating terms to the political establishment. He demanded that the Government drop its move and said the TRS would seek legal advice if it did not desist from the move.
