‘Monitor distribution of foodgrains’

Staff Correspondent

‘Misuse of foodgrains will not be tolerated’

Officials asked to take steps to check chikungunya

DAVANGERE: The Deputy Commissioner of Davangere district, M.B. Dyaberi, has instructed the tahsildars and Executive Officers (EOs) to monitor the distribution of foodgrains to the poor and to ensure that the foodgrains were not sold in the black market.

Chairing a public grievances meeting here on Saturday, he said that the poor, who were struggling to make ends meet, should not be put to further hardship by negligence of officers. He stated that misuse of foodgrains allocated to the poor or to the schools for the mid-day meal scheme would not be tolerated.

Expressing concern about the chikungunya in the neighbouring Shimoga district, Mr. Dyaberi asked the Health Department officials, EOs and tahsildars to take precautionary measures to check the incidence of the disease in Davangere.

Two women from Iguru village told Mr. Dyaberi that though their homes had collapsed a year ago, they had not received any compensation.

Mr. Dyaberi asked the respective tahasildar to verify their claim and once their claim was found credible, make arrangements to pay the two women compensation at the earliest.
