50 more community centres planned for East Delhi

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government would construct 50 more community centres in East Delhi so that residents of the area do not face any difficulty in having their social gatherings, it was announced by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday.

Laying the foundation stone of a community centre at Bhola Nath Nagar, Ms. Dikshit said that in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games in 2010 Delhi would witness tremendous infrastructural development.

Moreover, she said, the construction of the Commonwealth Games Village in the trans-Yamuna area would catalyse all-round development of the area and ensure better civic services and civic infrastructure at par with the most developed localities of the Capital.

As for the Bhola Nath Nagar community centre, it was announced that it would be completed within 15 months at a cost of Rs.1.5 crore.

The Chief Minister said 31 community centres had already been made operational in East Delhi. The Trans Yamuna Development Board would also undertake construction of over 50 public toilets in the area to address its sanitation needs, she added.

The Member of Parliament from East Delhi, Sandeep Dikshit, said the Trans Yamuna Development Board had been working hard for development in the area and expressed confidence that the new community centres would benefit the residents a great deal.
