Steps to enhance pay of village nurses sought

Listing demands: S. Tamil Selvi, State general secretary, Village Health Nurses’ Association, addressing a meeting in Tuticorin.
Tuticorin: The district unit of Tamil Nadu Village Health Nurses Association was constituted here on Friday.
During the first meeting of the association, S. Eswaralakshmi, R. Kanagavalli and R. Lokanayaki, were elected president, secretary and treasurer, respectively.
Felicitating the new office-bearers, Peter Barnabas, state secretary of Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association (TNGEA), said that steps should be taken to enhance the salary of village health nurses considerably during the next pay revision.
All sorts of pressures from politicians over the nurses should be discouraged, for their effective functioning.
S. Tamil Selvi, state general secretary of Tamil Nadu Village Health Nurses Association, M. Terence, district secretary of TNGEA, and N. Raghavan, district president of TNGEA, among others spoke.
