CHANDIGARH: Senior Congress leader and MP from Jalandhar, Rana Gurjeet Singh on Saturday described as “false and baseless” the case registered by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau against former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. In a statement issued here, Mr. Singh said the case had been “concocted” by the Badal government in its pursuit of vendetta politics against the Congress and its leader. “But the Badal government will never succeed in its nefarious designs,” he added. “The time has come for the Congress leaders and workers to come together and face the excesses of the Akali Dal-led government,” Mr. Singh said, recalling that the widespread violence, misuse of official machinery and lawlessness witnessed during the recent Panchayat polls had shaken the faith of the common man in democracy. In yet another such incident, a Congress worker, Ratan Lal, died due to police excesses at Majitha on Friday, he alleged.
